14th Japanese Ambassador Judo Championships





This years Japan ambassador’s judo championship was held at the Accra sports stadium last Saturday. The event comprised competitors from Ghana, Togo and Benin.

The event which was graced by his Excellency the ambassador of Japan Mr. Naoto Nikai and the President of the Ghana Judo Association and senior customs officer-Mr. Emmanuel Tetteh, was full of action and thrills.

Team Ghana failed to win gold in the -60 division when former West African gold medalist Dominic Agudo could not continue due to rib injury with the ultimate gold medal going to Togo.

His Excellency Naoto Nikai was grateful to the national sports authority and the Ghana judo association for their mutual efforts in organizing the event and further pledged his full commitment in promoting judo in Ghana.

The Japanese ambassador also expressed interest in promoting other Japanese sports such as Tae Kwon Do and Karate.

”it is my hope that today’s competition will be a further step in the cultural cooperation between our two countries” he quoted.
