Head of Political Science of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), has made a strong appeal to President John Mahama to sack minister of Youth and Sports Minister Mahama Ayariga and deputy Minister for Education, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.

Branding Mahama Ayariga as fit for propaganda purposes only and Ablakwa as dishonest, Richard Amoako Baah cannot understand why President Mahama still maintains the two in his government.

The professor weighed in on the latest reshuffle by President Mahama seen to be bringing back the old guards and experienced hands in government.

Key among the appointments is former NDC presidential aspirant and a former minister of Communications Dr. Ekow Spoi-Gabrah as Trade minister. The Majority leader in Parliament Benjamin Kunbuor is now Minister for Defence.

“These are people who can tell the president what needs to be said not the young people who just say what they think he should hear” he patted the President on the back.

But Professor Amoako Baah in a scathing critique said he was saddened by the continuous retention of Mahama Ayariga.

“One thing that makes me sad is Mahama Ayariga. I think he should be removed because he has served the president very poorly. In terms of propaganda and covering up for misdeeds of the government he has done very well. But has he done well for the country?..absolutely not”.

Mahama Ayariga became the Presidential Spokesman under the late President Atta Mills before he was subsequently appointed Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry. He was later appointed Deputy Minister of Education and again Minister for Information by President John Dramani Mahama in January 2013. His latest designation is at the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

“The propaganda was too much. He went to parliament..try to tell his own colleagues that they do not know what they are doing…the Speaker was very upset”, he said.

Mahama Ayariga was not alone in his critique. Professor Amoako Baah is unhappy with Deputy Minister for Education, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.

“If the president does not change him, he is asking for trouble”, he said, pointing out  the deputy minister has contributed to the anger of Polytechnic lecturers who are currently on strike over allowances.

“That deputy minister has lost credibility with the very people he is supposed to deal with”, he lashed out.

Ablakwa is MP for North Tongu and has been deputy minister for Information before his current portofolio.
