Jesdan Hope for the Future, a Non Governmental Organization (NGO), has presented seven computers and accessories to the Bubiashie 1 Junior High School (JHS) in Accra.

According Mr. Daniel Nii Boi Boye, President of the NGO, the donation was done following a fact-finding mission the organization undertook in some communities to assess facilities for ICT, among others.

He disclosed that, Jesdan Hope for the Future discovered that, whereas the schools were writing ICT as part of their BECE examinations, they had no computers to enhance the learning of the subject.

The NGO, therefore, informed its coordinator, Madam Comfort Rummel, who contacted its partners in Germany, known as Depesche, for the computers.

Mr. Boye said they first had to create room for the computers, so Bubiashie 1 and the other schools in the area were advised to convert one of their classrooms into an ICT centre. The school happened to be the first to do so, culminating in the donation.

He gave the assurance that more of such items would be coming from their partners but made a passionate appeal to government to intervene in their clearance from the ports.

He recounted that the organization had to pay about GH₵7,000.00 to clear the computers and other educational materials because the sector minister, Nana Oye Lithur, had travelled outside the country, leaving her deputies helpless.

He suggested that the laws be amended to give the deputies the mandate to act in such cases when the substantive minister is not around.

Mrs. Comfort Tetteh, Headmistress of Bubiashie 1 JHS, who received the items, thanked the organization for coming to their aid, assuring them that the items would be put to very good use in the teaching of ICT.

The presentation was made by Madam Comfort Rummel on behalf of Jesdan Hope for the Future NGO.
