Koforidua, Aug.13, GNA – Fruit vendors have sprouted in every corner of the Koforidua Township over the past few years.

Gone were the days, when one could count the number of fruit traders in the town.

The business had gained popularity and one could see people either selling fruits on table-tops or hawking in the markets, lorry stations, around offices and at residential areas.

Sometimes, the fruits were sold whole or sliced and packaged nicely in transparent plastic containers to attract customers.

A survey conducted by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) through the municipality indicated that the number of fruit vendors and sellers had shot up dramatically and the business had built a big clientele.

Speaking to the GNA in an interview on Wednesday, Madam Comfort Agyei, a fruit vendor said years ago, hardly could one see people selling fruits.

She said these days, however, there was high demand for fruits with different varieties such as pawpaw, mangoes, watermelon, sweet apple, pineapple, guava, star fruit, coconut, banana, oranges and a host of seasonal ones one could choose from.

Madam Agyei said prices of the fruits had gone up as fruits that were sold for 50 pesewas and GH¢1.00 are now being sold at GH¢ 2.00 and above.

Maame Esi Twum, a new comer in the business, said it was fetching her good income that enables her to support her household and hoped the business continued to grow.
