Mr. Williams Boakye-Baafi, Kumasi Provincial Association of Catholic Teachers (ACT), has stated that politicians in the country should be blamed for the falling standard and the poor performance of students in the country.

He explained that politicians always tried to use education to campaign for votes during general elections but after the elections they failed to fulfill such promises.

He said that Ghana Education Service could be one of the Services with highest policies and had experienced more reforms in the country, yet teaching services still top services with more challenges.

Mr. Williams Boakye-Baafi, also a teacher at St. Louis Senior High with Mathematics Department, made the statement when he presented some educational materials to pupils of Asonsuaso M/A Primary School, one of the deprived communities in the Ejisu Juaben Municipality.

Items he presented were 600 exercise books, 100 pens, 120 pencils, 80 erasers 120 crayon pencils at the cost of GHC 500.00.

He disclosed that the items were bought from money his friends gave to him as birthday gifts.

He stated that politicians had turned the nation’s education system into Laboratory where series of experiment were done.

He said it was time for politicians to stop politicizing the nation’s education and rather allow the technocrats in the education service to work freely.

He advised parents not to depend so much on politicians for providing education for their wards because politicians always had been paying lip services to education sector.

Mr. Boakye-Baafi appealed to officials of Ghana Education Service to provide teachers with the required teaching and learning materials like chalk, Teacher’s Note Book, Terminal Report Cards, and other materials teachers would need to make teaching and learning effective.

Madam Gertrude Mensah, Ejisu Juaben Municipal Director of Education, commended Mr. Williams Boakye-Baafi for donating such educational materials to the pupils and appealed to other people to emulate the good gesture Mr. Boakye-Baafi had done to help improve the standard of education in the area.
